Mission & History
<Our Mission
To eliminate poverty housing, changing lives, one family at a time. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God’s love and can live and grow into all that God intended. Our History
Habitat For Humanity of Montrose County became an affiliate in July 1991. We have constructed 37 Habitat homes and moved and renovated one home since 1992. In 1996 the affiliate began developing a 7 1/2 acre subdivision within the Montrose city limits. The 7 1/2 acres have been subdivided into 29 lots, and are now known as the Mesa Vista Habitat Community. Twenty-six Habitat families now reside in Mesa Vista. In 2010 we began a neighborhood revitalization progam called “A Brush with Kindness”, in order to help low income homeowners fix up the exterior of their homes.Habitat is now in the process of building our last three homes in Mesa Vista Subdivision. The families have been selected and construction will begin in the spring.
By the end of 2010, 29 homes will have been constructed in the Mesa Vista Habitat Subdivision, thus bringing our total of homes to 40 in the Montrose.
We are Breaking the Cycle of Poverty in our Community and restoring integrity!
